CORE Curriculum Program Guidelines


Overview – The SEIFC developed the CORE (Council Officer Roundtables and Education) curriculum in order to develop clear learning objectives based on core competencies identified in various council leadership positions.  Specifically, the SEIFC has developed CORE curriculum for council presidents, vice presidents (programming/internal operations), judicial directors, recruitment directors, treasurers and public relations chairs.

The CORE Competencies

Presidents

  • Identification and development of collaborative relationships with key constituents
  • Empowering council action and running effective meetings
  • Leading successful change initiatives
  • Appreciation of council standards and chapter accountability

Vice Presidents

  • The management/leadership dichotomy
  • Developing and managing an effective and efficient committee structure
  • Developing effective and appropriate educational and social programming
  • Delegation and supervision

Judicial Directors

  • Critical thinking
  • Written statement analysis
  • Understanding evidence and burdens of proof
  • Consensus building/Group decision making 
  • Educational and creative sanctioning

Recruitment Directors

  • Developing a year-round recruitment plan
  • Creating and implementing marketing/branding campaign
  • Effective communication
  • Understanding and utilization of university resources
  • Organization and structure (formal vs. informal)

Treasurers

  • Accountability of members/chapters
  • Budgeting
  • Understanding assets and liabilities
  • Utilizing and obtaining resources
  • Developing reserves

Public Relations Chairs

  • Understanding of public perceptions of Greek Life
  • Understanding the newsroom and the media cycle
  • Media writing and message development
  • Marketing and branding

Learning Styles

Research shows us that students learn best through a variety of teaching methods.  In order to be effective to a broad array of students with differing levels of cognitive development and different preferred learning styles, the CORE curriculum is designed to incorporate each of those learning styles into a comprehensive learning experience.   Presenters in the CORE program will incorporate:

  • Large group discussion
  • Small group processing and discussion
  • Instructive presentations
  • Case studies
  • Reflective/Self guided learning
